Our History

St Mark’s Boys Town High School is based on the model of Fr. Edward Flanagan's Boys Town at Nebraska in U.S.A. Keeping Fr. Flanagan's ideals in mind, it was established at Jahanuma by the late Rev. Bro. John of God.

The year 1955, which was a centenary year of All Saints High School, Rev. Bro. John of God had a vision to start a home for the homeless, underprivileged, poor, needy and orphans.

The dream came true when Boys Town was started by shifting orphan children from All Saints High School to St Mark’s Boys Town High School. From here, the history of Boys Town and the mission of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel’s in the Old City of Hyderabad began.

It had a modest beginning in temporary sheds with 3 brothers, 5 teachers and 75 orphan children taken from All Saints' School, having no resources of its own, except for some seven acres of barren and abandoned rocky land in the Old City of Hyderabad.

The school is managed by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, a religious congregation that originated in France over 300 years ago. The Montfort Brothers came to India more than a century ago and have since been dedicated to the education and holistic development of children, especially the poor, the differently abled, and the socially disadvantaged.

The first Principal of the institution was Rev. Bro. John of the Sacred Heart, whose leadership laid a strong foundation for discipline, academic excellence, and value-based education.

Initially established as a boys’ school, St. Mark’s Boys Town High School evolved with the changing needs of society and introduced co-education in the academic year 1990–91, thereby expanding its mission to serve a wider community. Over the decades, the school has grown significantly in strength, infrastructure, and reputation. It now caters to thousands of students and maintains a strong record of academic achievement, discipline, and co-curricular excellence. The institution has consistently produced responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to society in various fields.

“Service to Humanity is Service to God”

The school continues to focus on holistic education—nurturing intellectual growth, moral values, social responsibility, and leadership qualities among students.

Today, after the successful completion of 70 years, St. Mark’s Boys Town High School stands as a symbol of dedication, compassion, and excellence in education, carrying forward its mission of transforming young lives and building a better society.
